VFT:LA 03/2017 Disney SALUTE event

Wed 29 Mar

VFT members were invited to The Walt Disney Studio Lot for an speaker/screening event featuring VFT Board of Directors member Rebecca Murga.  Disney’s SALUTE, employee resource group for veterans, hosted the event and invited CPT Murga to speak to Disney vets, supporters and guests.  Rebecca spoke about her military service and career path that was sparked in part by winning a directing opportunity for ABC’s Home for the Holidays digital shorts.  Now a part of ABC’s Director’s program, Rebecca noted that opportunities like she’s had were possible thanks to companies like Disney and ABC investing in the capabilities of veterans.  “We were very excited to host Rebecca because she’s not only talented but she’s just a great person with a success story every veteran can draw inspiration from,” said Miguel Lima, Co-President of SALUTE.

The highlight of the evening was the screening of the short Rebecca directed titled “One Halloween.”  The film is about a disabled Iraq war veteran helping his daughter and the production employed over 20 veterans in both key acting and crew roles.  After the film screened, Rebecca invited the producers, Karen Kraft and Tom McCafferty to speak about their experience as well as introduce the mission of VFT to Disney vets.  The evening concluded with Rebecca inviting VFT filmmaker, Ryan Curtis, to speak about how ABC’s Home for the Holidays helped them further their career.

The event was held at the Disney Studio Lot’s Main Theater.
